The concept and fabrication of this coffee table are an interdisciplinary cooperative work between the Design and Engineering departments. The inspiration comes mainly from bio-mimicry, though also some influence from the neatness of Scandinavian design. The table depicts natural formations such as rocks and crystal structures, highlighting the coldness of those sharp-edged shapes through the usage of steel, formed liked the facets of a gemstone. The aim is to entangle the visually appealing with the functional by balancing the bleakness of the steel with warmth and softness of the pinewood.
