Terranium
by Katherina Ilenseer
The goal of this project was to work between the digital and the tangible in regards to sculpture. The result is a 3d printed, impossible terrarium in which the plant floats within the boundaries of the terrarium, its leaves intersecting the structure in a way that would not otherwise be possible.
Textures of wood, leaf and marble are printed into the sculpture yet the sculpture itself is not constructed by any of these materials. The work emphases the limitations and possibilities for 3d printing and questions the use and reality of materials in sculpture.
