Hey, toi!
by Mirlande Germain
Hey, toi! is a piece on the prejudices and stereotypes labelled on youths and the different cultures of the visible minorities in Montreal. They are often easy targets for racism and systemic discrimination by society. In the form of an interview, the subjects express their social inequalities as well as their feeling of inferiority towards the police authorities.
Her work is an interactive video installation that expresses concerns between the subjects and the audience. Viewers activate videos by interacting with a touchpad on which there is thermochromic paint pigments. The paint creates an effect that gives the impression that the participant must leave their fingerprint to play the interview.
