Hands On Nightlight
by Natalya Merrison
Hands On is an interactive nightlight designed to cultivate an emotional attachment with the user. Designed for disassembly using repurposed materials, Hands On tackles the idea that we could become more attached to an object that looks inherently human, especially if it replicates the user themselves. Using a battery operated reed switch circuit, this nightlight is turned on and off by placing the ball in the plaster hand. Fabricated using the alginate lifecasting method, Hands On asks: would you put part of yourself in the garbage?
