Gaze
by Katherina ilenseer
Gaze uses Max Msp to blend together live camera input and edited video footage of vintage erotica. The work aims to turn the gaze onto the viewer, blurring and distorting the lines of viewer and spectator. The use of vintage footage is chosen in contrast to the glitchy, cyber aesthetic that Max Msp brings to the work, as well as to illustrate how technology has altered and added to our perceptions of women as subjects of desire.
The piece can either be projected or shown in front of a computer screen in which the viewer is able to be seated and an intimate environment could be built around the screen.
