Complicit Obsession

Complicit Obsession explores with Max-MSP the mechanics of obsession and desire. The work is an interactive video collage made up of video clips of Jackie, the artist’s roommate.

The user experiences extreme closeups of Jackie’s face, being forced into a position of extreme scrutiny. The video clips are randomized and layered on top of one another. The video collage is zoomed in so that the viewer can only see parts of Jackie’s face at all times. The user is then able to move the cursor around on screen to move the frame and see the complete picture. By hovering over the closely zoomed in images of Jackie, the piece mimics an obsessive gaze on the subject.
