The idea behind the botRoom is that the online visitors are entering a website on which they think they have control on but they actually do not. This chat room is dominated by bots that are personified by artificial agents filmed from a webcam in their virtual world. The users are then interacting purely with an interface. Moreover the interface has control over them by imposing a role on them. This demo exhibits an interface that tries to convince the visitors that they are the “weird creepy strangers” of the chat room. Contrary to Chatroulette, the user cannot decide what they are looking at, the “next” button doesn’t exist here. This remake therefore critiques the speed to which one refuses interaction with others, a popular format in social media these days.
