A River Drying Up

by Sarah Tawil and Jay Han

This table is inspired by one of the effects of climate change drought through its opening and closing mechanism. It is also inspired by a river that splits into many different slow-flowing channels that have muddy banks.

The table elongates and shortens when both sides of it are pulled out, it reveals a thin plexiglass river underneath with cracked riverbed made from laser-cut plywood.

The parts of "land" are made of a beautiful pink cherry wood. This coffee table is designed in a way that the user can put books on the lower part of the table where there is a base to hold them.
