Michael Bishop

My name is Michael Bishop and I am into Dutch and Scandinavian design. Since stepping into the visual arts field six years ago, my work has involved the creation of objects that have a strong personal component. In the past I have created short stories, poems as well. A prominent feature in my work is the play on symbolic aspects and when I work with wood I am reminded of my visit to the Treske furniture factory in Thirsk (UK) a long time ago and the people who worked there. Often times I utilize elements from antique, vintage, and thrift stores. In other words, I seek inspiration from objects that suggest a history. When things are going well, I am filled with a sense of being in a wide open field and sometimes feel the colour red suggests notions of the primitive self. I would like to work on experimental design projects, particularly furniture, following the completion of my degree. Which is to say, I feel that I still have many avenues to explore in art and design. And by the way, sometimes you just have to wait for your inspiration.
