Vivian Yu

My name is Vivian Yu, and I am into creating design works displaying multi-disciplinary elements, because I do not believe in placing limits with design. Since my awakening to eco-design and global issues, my work has involved the creation of projects that are attentive to social and ecological impacts. I like creating visuals that are thought provoking, in order to enlighten others. In the past, I have created works using non-traditional materials as well. A prominent feature in my work is the integration of hand-drawn illustrations and digital processes together. This helps to compensate for where computers are often too dominant and standardized. When I work with a pencil, I am reminded that ideas are at their best when they don't suffer compromises due to the limitations of a mouse. Often times I utilize elements from what I see, what I experience and what I like. In other words, I take the world as I see it. When things are going well, I am filled with a sense of exhilaration, and sometimes feel the colour yellow suggests notions of life. I would like to embrace purpose-driven design projects, balancing substance with style, following the completion of my degree. This is to say, I see design as a beneficial tool that can improve quality of life. By the way, we are what we design.
