Simon Wong

My name is Simon, and I am into creating objects that enable interaction between designer and audience. Since my introduction to artist Devora Neumark, my work has involved the creation of works that allow the audience to participate by expressing their feelings and their thoughts. In the past, I have created some functional pieces as well. A prominent feature in my work is the integration of different materials in a project, and when I work with a project, I am reminded that designers shouldn't stay in front of a computer screen. Instead, they should walk away from the studio in order to open up their vision. Often times I utilize elements from the Bauhaus and Minimalism. In other words, I agree with the notion that simplicity and clarity lead to good design, emphasizing that less is more. When things are going well, I am filled with a sense of satisfaction, and sometimes feel the colour blue suggests notions of freedom. I would like to design some fabulous products that reflect my design beliefs following the completion of my degree. This is to say, I plan to design functional objects that are less ornamental. By the way, I enjoy creating projects in the workshop. My craftsmanship often brings me confidence for the completion of my design.
