My name is Fernando Madera Alvarado, and I am into illustration. Since 2006, my work has involved the creation of varied two-dimensional projects. In the past, I have created models in material form and on the computer as well. A prominent feature in my work is that it is done by hand, and when I work with found materials, I am reminded that the best artist works with the least amount of supplies. Often times I utilize elements from the vernacular and from my cultural background. In other words, I like to work with visual narratives. When things are going well, I am filled with a sense of enjoyment, and sometimes feel the colour black suggests notions of individuality. I would like to work in the graphic/illustration design field and keep on growing my material practice following the completion of my degree. This is to say, I would like to go back to my country and rediscover it after all these years studying in Canada.
